Day 13

Oh what a day. Last night we were turned away at the Spice restaurant 'cos they said it was 10:30 pm and showed us their clock. Dave said it was only 10:20 pm but they were insistant and wouldn't budge. Dave ran up the stairs to the reception/front desk and asked the receptionist what time it was and he replied 10:24 pm. Dave explained the situation and with us in toe the receptionist marched downstairs and had a fairly heated discussion (in spanish) with the manager. After 5 mins we were told a table was being set for us, but there was no way I was going to eat there now, I felt uncomfortable with the atmosphere and who knows what they would do to our food! The waiters wanted us to come in, we're good tippers and we'd had a laugh with them on our previous visits. Well, Dave being Dave saw a window (a large one!) for an opportunity to get something out of this. We sent a email to the general manager the next day (today). There were a couple of voice messages in the room asking us to contact them and then there was a knock at the door. A waiter was trying to deliver champayne in an icebucket and a large bowl of fruit. But no, Dave wasn't having any of that - he told them he knew where all the restaurants were and he didn't want fruit or champayne as they're always on offer all day. Well to cut a long story short we ended up with a shiatswe massage for two with essential oils and use of their marine spa an hour before. It was so funny when we had finished as we had to walk down a very grand rolling staircase and Dave could just about walk, I nearly wet myself laughing. We went to the Italian restaurant for dinner to be told there was a half hour wait, they give you a bleeper after taking you room details. All of a sudden they were able to make a table up for us straight away which we thought was a result. Next thing, the restaurant manager over the 8 restaurants has appeared apologising profusely. It was quite embarrassing he was so apologetic. Dave said not to worry the manager has sorted us out and we could forget about it now. He was so genuienly sorry that he went and personally got us a lovely bottle of beringer, a very good quality one, it was very very nice. He checked on us all night as did the waiters and when we ordered our sweet he asked if we had time for him to personally make us a strawberry flambe (?) which he cooked in front of us with liquores and wine etc. served with proper italian ice cream. Yum. It was so nice he saved a bit for himself!! He was so truly remorseful about the whole thing we said we've forgotten about it for which he was so relieved. All 8 restaurants must have been on alert for residents of room 1003 for him to be notified cos they obviously didn't know where we were going to eat. Getting turned away the night before done us the biggest favour. We finished the night by laying on one of the raised king beds on the beach, watching the stars with music playing from the speakers of the surround which were lit up cerise pink. Ah it was lovely. Oh and also we have got our room till we leave tomorrow at 2 pm instead of 12 noon like everyone else. What a result! I'll post some pictures later as I'm off to bed now. We'll be home monday morning (please God).x

Day 12

One too many - again

View from lazy river
I spent the morning lazing in our pool, floating around on a float, doing my sunbathing with my feet hanging in the cool blue water (jealous yet?!!) with Dave handing me non-alcholic cocktails (he was sunbathing in the garden) .. ocassionally I would hear myself snore (just quietly) and so would splash my face, just so I didn't drown! Just before lunch we went to the beach where Dave defiantly tried to windsurf. Unfortunately he couldn't stay standing up (but he used to be good!) 'cos the breeze was going the wrong way! I dashed from a very late lunch to the spa where I had a lovely 'spa' manicure/hand massage and had my nails painted a very feminine red. My nails have grown a nice length here without all that hard work at the kitchen sink. I've just had my bath/jacuzzi outside and am getting ready for a big night again .. well that's the intention but like last night (again), I'll probably fizzle out within a couple of hours. Dave keeps thinking he's being clever plying me with cocktails but he forgets that each one has about 4 different spirits in them!! No wonder I start to slide down the dining chair after 2. Anyway, here a some more photos. Love you all. x

Day 11

Watching stars (or seeing stars!!)

Our neighbours

Had a lovely meal at 'Spice' last night which is Asian (chinese, vietnamese, japenese). At the beach early today on a double lounger. I finished my second book!! (what's that all about, never been done before). They got a little collection (library) of books on a stand by the pool which is handy. Here are some photos.

Day 10

We went to the disco last night! Stayed awake somehow even though I tried too many of those cocktails again. Today has been about 84f - so hot, but we've been sunbathing in the lazy river so we can cool down quickly. You can see below the beach whale that managed to find its way to the pool! Really appreciating this hot weather now, except for these bloody mossy bites, they don't usually get me. The picture is of the spa which echoes out piped music as you drift around the lazy river which encircles it. Our apartment is in the middle with the spa opposite behind palm trees.

Day 9

After not getting bit by mosquitos all week ('cos they spray/fumigate the resort each evening) I got bit to pieces in Cancun yesterday, nasty bites! Last night we managed to stay awake for the 'disco', which was outside next to the beach. It was in one of the open air restaurants which suspends over the pool. I forgot just how much I miss my music, you know Stef, when I can't stop singing and jammin' even at work. It was brill - Beyonce, Usher, Rhianna, all those that you love me playing at work Stef. yeah right!! It was a good night - we'd had chataeaubriand at the french restaurant which was superb. The food here is as good as a cruise ship, so much quality food presented beautifully - everythings your favourite unfortunately. Today was hot and we spent it on the double bed lounger on the beach. Here are some photos of Dave in his 'holiday' white linen trousers! No .. he looked cool, perfect for an open air disco. x

Day 8

Today we did a bit of sunbathing before breakfast and we took a swim around the lazy river to cool down before we went to eat - it was so hot at 8 o'c this morning. We took a cab ride into Cancun to the shopping malls. They've got all the big designer names here but there are no bargains, in fact we think you get a better bargain in London (although I did manage to get the swarovski earrings I've had my eye on)! Just had a bath in the hot tub in the garden - will definately miss that, it's so relaxing to bath outside in the warm air when it's just getting dark.

Day 7

There are hammocks everywhere.

The plants within the grounds are beautiful. So well kept.

This is the spa - you can swim up to it or go in over the bridge.

Day 6

These are the double beds that are on the beach.you can see the moon out in full in the picture below.

Day 5

It's Xmas!

Last night we went to the Italian restaurant and finished the evening in the main bar which is semi outside. They had a good local group playing with lots of old songs we knew, they play for the crowd which is english/american. Stayed out till about 10:45 pm, whoo hoo. We were at breakfast by 7 am this morning .. love it, it means you get a full 'day' in 'cos the sun goes down about 5:30 pm. We just lazed today although Dave did a bit of kayaking on the smooth caribbean. When we got back to our suite, Dave had a lay on the sunbed and I went on the float on the lazy river ending up back outside ours. Just getting ready to go to the chinese and the entertainment tonight is 'mexican'. They've got all the props up around the resort with the ponchos and sombreros, if that's how you spell it?

Thursday 11 December 2008

Day 4

The leaning lighthouse

Today was a bit overcast so we walked to the little fishing village, Puerto Morelas. 50 mins along the beach and we were there .. but we had to walk back! It was lovely though, look at this.
Arghh - my hair's a nightmare!

Wednesday 10 December 2008

Day 3

Up and out early for breakfast today. We were on the beach by 8 am and set up a wicker double bed with deep cushions and pillows with about six towels all wrapped round. You can do some serious sleeping on the beach in one of these! Half way through my 'Ray Winstone biography' now. After an hour long walk along the perfect white powered sandy beach we had a dip in the warm turqouise sea. I only had one pina colada today with my lunch which resulted in more reading/sleeping on our double sun bed. We took an outside jacuzzi in our little garden as the evening was drawing in, the palm trees swaying and the long muslin sheet that 'hides' the jacuzzi was blowing about. Once again, I drank too much so after our 'chinese' we listened to a fella playing the violin (kinda modern) we went back to our suite.

Day 2

Today was overcast and windy with a couple of heavy showers. It's still warm though and we sat on the beach in the morning. Later we listed to a local group that sang a few Santana songs and an english bloke sang a song or two playing the keyboard, he was good .. it was all very entertaining. I've drunk too many cocktails in the 'day' today and will have to leave it out now. Dave had another knap whilst I had a spa french pedicure .. it was lovely, I had 'saved' it for when we were out here (got my money's worth!).We ate in the french restaurant this evening and I was shattered. With the heat, alchohol and everything! it knocks you out. So after listenting to one of the old Platters guys sing a few songs we went home early. Looking forward to an early rise tomorrow.

Mexico - Day 1

We went for breakfast nice and early which was superb. We had omelettes and then smoked salmon & thinly sliced raw tuna with fresh bread. The spread is unbelievable. We then had a little sunbathe in our own private garden and entered the lazy river on a float. I dried out on the hammock after a little read. We went down to the beachfront and had a walk for about an hour. Of course when we returned I had to have a cocktail or two, hence I fell asleep on a sunbed until we went to lunch. Shrimps and calamari .. so much lovely seafood. We've just had a jacuzzi outside on the patio .. i'm popping over to the spa to have a look around - Dave's already snorring!!
Last night was hilarious. I got so drunk that I can't remember finishing my lobster - I remember starting it but jolted upright just as I finished it!! lol I've never had such a lethal pina colada (or maybe it was the couple of martini cocktails we had - they did have tequila, vodka & rum in them afterall! We had a good sleep, went into a kind of mild coma .. Tomorrow I'll try & post some photos if this thing works. xx
